practical tips

GETTING TO THE TOUR:

Since most travelers do not stay within Heliopolis (unless you’re aiming to stay next to Cairo International Airport), almost everybody would need to get a ride. We recommend Uber or Careem.

Cairo traffic could be unpredictable, so we would always recommend adding some buffer time to your commute.

how to prepare:

We recommend wearing comfortable (closed-toe) shoes to enjoy the walks with maximum comfort. Wearing clothes made with airy materials is best in the summer.

For the winter, layering is key as it can be warm in the afternoons but cold and windy in the evenings. Trust us on this, the wind can be stronger than expected.

On the day of the tour, we suggest skipping breakfast/lunch and coming hungry, we promise you will be full, and if you’re not, your guide is always happy to offer you more food.

staying safe:

Fortunately, since Heliopolis is not a touristic neighborhood, tourist scams are not common there. Heliopolis has tons of affluent neighborhoods and it is one of the safest areas in Cairo.

It’s wise to use common sense and stay alert as you would in any city around the world (eg. avoiding dark alleyways, being aware that pick-pocketing is more common in crowded places … etc.).

We have compiled a conclusive list of scams that are common in Egypt. In Heliopolis, those scams are uncommon so you have nothing to worry about.

Finally, we recommend staying away from certain articles of clothing (eg. crop tops, hot shorts, mini skirts, low-cut tops …) to prevent unwanted attention on the streets. This is not a dress code, it’s just a tip.
