We’re looking for individuals to join our support team of food tour guides on a flexible. If you have an upbeat personality, appreciate food and know Cairo better than the palm of your hand, read on!

 

WHAT’S THE JOB LIKE?

As a food tour guide, you'll lead guests from across the globe, sharing insights into the city's history, food, and local life, and answering their questions. Key responsibilities include meeting guests, ensuring their safety, managing vendor payments and expenses, capturing photos, and infusing each tour with your unique personality.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Is a Cairo local with excellent English skills (bonus points for French or Spanish).

  • Has a genuine passion for food, culture, and all things Cairo!

  • Is available for tours at least 5 days/month on flexible schedule.

  • Is exceptionally punctual, especially when navigating Cairo's traffic.

  • Is mentally tough and resilient in the face of Cairo’s (sometimes) challenging nature.

  • Has an upbeat personality and genuinely enjoy connecting with people.

  • Is a quick thinker, adept at smoothly resolving unexpected challenges.

  • Is honest, respectful, presentable, and reliable.

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO APPLY?

There are a few things we want you to know before you apply for this ROLE:

  3. This role requires joining a 4-week training program before being assigned to tours. Individuals who make it through their first interview will be informed about the details of the training.

  4. This role requires committing to 5 days of tours per month at different times of the day between 10am and 6pm (depending on booking requests).

  5. We will only consider locals who were born and (mostly) raised in Cairo. We are currently not considering non-Egyptians for this role.

  6. Freelancing in the tourism industry is seasonal. We are not obliged to provide a consistent flow of opportunities if you’re hired for this position.

frequently asked questions

I work a full-time job and I don’t have flexible work hours; can I still apply?

Yes, but keep in mind that we run tours all days of the week between 10am and 6pm depending on booking requests. Individuals who already have a full-time job might not be able to take on the required amount of tours. Individuals with flexible schedules will be prioritized.

Is the 4-week training paid?

Yes, however, there are specific payment terms which will be discussed before you accept your offer.

Do I have to be a licensed tour guide or have prior experience to apply?

No, you don’t need to have any formal training or experience prior to applying.

I am not a fluent English speaker, but I speak FRENCH/Spanish or another language; can I still apply?

At the moment, we’re looking for English-Speakers and French-speakers with Spanish as a second language being a plus. 

I’m a university student, can I still apply?

Yes, please state that in your application.

I’m half-Egyptian; can I still apply?

If you’ve spent adequate time growing up in Cairo, you can definitely apply. Please mention it in your application.
