ABOUT THE TOUR
We are seeking a local tour guide from Port Said to lead “Port Said: Tales from the Canal,” a full-day food and cultural walking tour. This role is ideal for someone with strong knowledge of the city’s history and a genuine interest in sharing its stories in a thoughtful, engaging, and people-centred manner. The role is also ideal for someone passionate about local food and culinary traditions, bringing the flavors of Port Said to life.
Lead Port Said: Tales from the Canal walking food tour, sharing stories about Port Said’s history, culture, everyday life, and culinary traditions within their broader social and historical context.
Connect historical events with social, cultural, and personal narratives, engaging guests through conversation rather than scripted narration.
Create a warm, inclusive, and respectful experience while adapting your storytelling style to suit different audiences and group dynamics.
Manage group flow, timing, and movement throughout the tour, ensuring guest safety and comfort at all times.
Build and maintain respectful relationships with local vendors and partners involved in the tour.
Represent Bellies En-route professionally and with cultural sensitivity.
Coordinate with the Bellies En-route team on scheduling, logistics, feedback, and attend required training and preparation meetings.
Follow agreed-upon routes and core content while allowing space for organic interaction, personal observations, and local insight.
Be comfortable walking for extended periods, including in outdoor and market environments.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Strong personal connection to Port Said and its history. Applicants must be from Port Said and either currently living in the city or able to be present on scheduled tour dates.
Genuine interest in storytelling and people-centred narratives.
Able to communicate clearly in both Arabic and English. French is a plus.
Confident, clear, and engaging communication style.
Reliable, organized, and comfortable leading small groups on foot.
Experience in guiding, education, cultural work, or storytelling is a plus.
BEFORE YOU APPLY
Tales from the Canal explores Port Said through its food, music, and layered history. The tour moves across the city’s three historic districts, traces their historical development, and engages with everyday spaces such as the fish market, the ferry crossing to Port Fouad, and local food venues. Guides are expected to connect these locations through clear, thoughtful storytelling that reflects Port Said’s resilience, cultural identity, and contemporary life.
There are a few things we want you to know:
Tours are booking-based and scheduled in advance.
Group sizes typically range up to 12 guests per tour. In some cases, groups may be larger; when this occurs, additional guide support will be provided.
This is a freelance role.
Training, as well as all tour content and materials, will be provided by Bellies En-route.
