How to prepare
your guests

To ensure your guests have the best experience, you can share the following tips with them:

  • We recommend that guests wear comfortable (closed-toe) shoes to enjoy the walks with maximum comfort.

  • Wearing clothes made with airy materials is best in the summer. We highly recommend that guests stay away from certain articles of clothing (eg. crop tops, hot shorts, mini skirts, low-cut tops …) to avoid unwanted attention on the streets. This is a suggestion and by no means a strict requirement.

  • For the winter, layering is key as it can be warm in the afternoons but cold and windy in the evenings, especially on the rooftop bar we end the tour at.

  • On the day of the tour, we highly suggest guests skip lunch so they can enjoy the wide variety of food on the tour to the fullest. We guarantee that the guests will be full and satisfied at the end of the tour.

Allergies

To accommodate all traveller’ preferences, we have designed our tours in a way that can be modified for different needs. Kindly refer to the following information to help your guests get the safest experience on their food tour.

We strongly recommend specifically asking your guests if they have any allergies and how severe they are before booking.

For vegetarians who are open to dishes that include beef and chicken broths, our tour can be enjoyed with a minimal number of dishes skipped. Every stop will surely have a vegetarian dish to enjoy, although the meats on the side are not replaced with another dish.

If your guests do not want to consume broths, we replace the dishes on the 5th stop to offer a completely different style of dish served at the same restaurant. On private tours, this stop can be skipped.

Vegetarians

Stops 2, 3, 5, and 10: These stops can be fully enjoyed by vegan guests with no modifications.

Stops 1, 4, 6, and 8: These stops will have some vegan options, yet the non-vegan options can be skipped.

Stops 7 and 9: These stops include non-vegan dishes only, and vegans can book a private tour if they want to skip these stops completely, or join a group and skip eating at the stops while the rest of the group tries the dishes here.

Vegan guests still get to taste tons of delicious foods like our national dish, Koshary, Ful and Falafel, fried eggplant, baba ghanoug, dessert, and beverages like coffee, juices, and beer.

Vegan

Egyptian cuisine is very heavy on bread, rice with vermicelli and pasta, so we make modifications to keep GF guests safe, although we urge you to notify us if cross-contamination could pose a threat to our guests’ well being.

We offer a 30% discount for all gluten-free guests to enjoy this experience with their loved ones.

Gluten-free guests can still enjoy a modified version of Koshary, Ful and Falafel plates rather than the usual sandwiches, coffee, juices, home-style vegetable stews (skipping rice with vermicelli and bread), dips, Molokhiya and others. Dessert is tricky since the desserts offered on our tour are all made with wheat flours, although we can do an ice cream stop on private tours.

Gluten-free (30% discount)

Lactose Intolerance is a minor issue when it comes to savory dishes. We will make a few adjustments when it comes to one beverage with milk and desserts. This allergy is a simple one to handle and lactose intolerant guests can enjoy the tour comfortably.

Lactose Intolerance

A nut allergy is a minor issue when it comes to savory dishes. We will make a few adjustments when it comes to desserts. This allergy is a simple one to handle and guests with nut allergies can enjoy most of the stops on the tour comfortably.

NUT ALLERGY

Seafood & Shellfish Allergies

We do not offer any seafood options on the tour, although on stop 7, the frying oil can be a cause for cross-contamination in major cases of shellfish allergies, so please let us know if your guest cannot consume shellfish.

For questions regarding specific allergies that are not mentioned on this list, kindly send us an inquiry by clicking below.

Halal

Our tours do not include any pork products. Foods that are not considered halal are not common in Egypt since the majority of the population is Muslim, and animals are butchered according to Muslim practices.

Alcohol is optional on the tour and can be replaced with non-alcoholic options.

Soy Allergies

There is no cause for concern regarding soy allergies.
