about the Experience

In this experience, your guests will Join a seasoned local home cook for a warm, communal cooking experience that brings them closer to the heart of Egyptian home cuisine and its culture of togetherness.

Your guests will dive into a hands-on experience preparing a quintessential Egyptian comfort meal. They will learn to core vegetables for mahshi, concoct the perfect Egyptian tomato sauce “tasbeeka” and prepare kabab halla; a decadent Egyptian beef stew.


For private tours, the market walk is a free optional add-on, depending on the guests’ preference.


Menu

  • Mahshi: Stuffed vegetables with herbed rice.

  • Kabab halla: Beef stew with caramelized onions.

  • Baladi salad

  • Roz bi laban: Rice pudding two ways.

  • A variety of pickled vegetables prepared in our own kitchen.


How to prepare
your guests

To ensure your guests have the best experience, you can share the following tips with them:

  • We recommend that guests wear comfortable (closed-toe) shoes to enjoy the market walk with maximum comfort.

  • On the day of the class, we highly suggest guests skip dinner so they can enjoy the wide variety of food on the tour to the fullest. We guarantee that the guests will be full and satisfied at the end of the tour.


Allergies


To accommodate all traveller’ preferences, we have designed our classes in a way that can be modified for different needs. Kindly refer to the following information to help your guests get the safest experience on their food tour.

We strongly recommend specifically asking your guests if they have any allergies and how severe they are before booking.

For vegetarians we remove the Kabab Halla, and guests will be offered something else to replace it.

Vegetarians

The Kabab Halla is replaced with something the vegan guests can enjoy. We also make sure to cook with oil  instead of ghee, and replace milk and cream in rice pudding with coconut milk and coconut cream.

Vegan

This menu is gluten free

Gluten-free 

This allergy is a simple one to handle and lactose intolerant guests can enjoy the class comfortably. We will replace milk and cream in rice pudding with coconut milk and coconut cream.

Lactose Intolerance

There is no cause for concern regarding nut allergies. We will avid using any nuts in the rice pudding.

NUT ALLERGY

Seafood & Shellfish Allergies

There is no cause for concern regarding seafood or shellfish.

Halal

Our classes do not include any pork products. Foods that are not considered halal are not common in Egypt since the majority of the population is Muslim, and animals are butchered according to Muslim practices.

Soy Allergies

There is no cause for concern regarding soy allergies.
